Bedoba (six pack)

The Back Story
Georgia’s UNESCO listed wine culture dates back some 8,000 years – the welcoming and benevolent nature of the people is a joy for all who have had the privilege of experiencing it – the inclusive and eclectic nation at the junction between East, West, North and South. European, Persian, Arabian, Anatolian and Far Eastern cultures have influenced Georgia’s own identity, resulting in one of the most hospitable countries in the world.
In honour of this, Bedoba was created, a collaboration between Georgian winemaker Nugzar Ksovreli from the Kakheti wine company and Swiss wine entrepreneur Thierry Fontannaz.’
Thierry’s fascination with qvevri and the utmost respect for Georgia’s ancient winemaking techniques guided his decisions when creating Bedoba. The fruit is sourced from Nugzar’s saperavi vines from the winery belonging to the Konchoshvili family which dates back to 1533 to produce wines for Kakhetian King Teimuraz II.
In Georgian Bedoba means, ‘day of luck.’  – a salutation to manifest good intentions and happiness in homes and establishments.
Our most popular wine at the Christmas showcase, Bedoba highlights the heritage of Georgian winemaking, the saperavi is partially aged in traditional qvevri* this gives a deftness to the wine, think black pepper notes associated with Northern Rhone syrah, but with the richness of the warmer southern regions of the Rhone and the Languedoc.
With a lovely late Easter this year, we are all hoping for some decent spring sunshine, perhaps even the chance to dine outside on roast lamb – Bedoba was made for roast lamb and as such we want to invite you grab a case now. Regulars in store know we can’t hold deep levels of stock in our little shop so ordering a case now really is your best chance to guarantee your favourite wine this spring.

Telani, Khikhvi (White) 2020

Made from the native Georgian variety Khikhvi of which there was only one single hectare recorded in the country in 2004. The number of vines has since grown, but it is still considered a rarity and somewhat of an ‘unsung hero’ in Georgia.

Pale straw in colour with aromas of melon, peach and citrus. Similar flavours follow on the palate which is ripe and textural and very proper.

Excellent with mildly spiced middle eastern food, as well as grilled fish or white meats.

Teliani Valley Winery Mixed Six

2 bottles Saperavi 2020 (Red)

Vibrant crunchy and juicy, this might be everyone’s new favourite wine!

Wine is made from Georgias’s indigenous grape variety – Saperavi, which is hand harvested from the Kakheti Region (East Georgia). Wine undergoes 7-10 days of fermentation on skins. Once fermentation is complete, skins are removed from the wine.

Saperavi is often compared to Malbec, Cabernet Franc and even Gamay depending on how it is made. In this case we are firmly in Malbec territory – a strikingly deep purple colour, bright and juicy with fresh crunchy dark berry flavours and perfectly balanced acidity.

2 bottles Kakhuri No8 (Amber)

Kakhuri N8 is a blend of 4 Georgian indigenous grape varieties – Rkatsiteli, Kakhuri Mtsvane, Khikhvi and Kisi, harvested in Kakheti, east Georgia. Grapes are exclusively hand selected and only the highest quality, fully ripe grapes are used for production. The wine is made using old Kakhetian traditional winemaking method with skin contact. Fermentation on skins takes place for 7-10 days, once the fermentation is finished the grape skin remain with the wine for 6 months.

Rich dried fruit and nutty flavours and long dry refreshing finish are much easier to get your mouth around! Don’t chill it, you’ll just bring the tannins forward at the expense of the lovely flavours – serve cool, not cold!

1 bottle Unfiltered Saperavi (Red)

This oak-aged unfiltered version is from specially selected grapes from the vineyards of Tsinandali – the result has more tannin and texture than the entry version, backed up with rich, pure blackberry and plum aromas, as well as smoky chocolate notes.

Pairs wonderfully with roast meats and hard cheese
