To the faithful, the curious and damn right thirsty. Let’s get this party started.
I’ve just placed an order to top up our Vinho Verde for the weekend and managed to persuade Ricardo from Portuguese Story to sell us 36 of the 72 bottles he has landing on 7th July of their fantastic Quinta das Arcas DOC Vinho Verde Tinto.
Forget everything you think you know about Vinho Verde. This is the red one. Made from the Vinhão grape, it’s deep ruby, lightly sparkling and ridiculously refreshing. Think blackberry juice for grown-ups; dark fruit, a mineral edge and enough grip to keep you reaching for the next glass. Serve it chilled and watch a long lunch become a very long lunch.
This style remains hugely popular in Portugal but is almost impossible to find over here. In fact, it’s so scarce that it doesn’t even appear on the estate’s own website. www.quintadasarcas.com/en/catalogue/vinho-verde/belenus/
I do not exaggerate when I say I had to horse-trade with Ricardo to secure half of the shipment landing in the UK.
36 bottles. That’s it.
First come, first served.
